Product Management at a large bank vs Business Analytics/S&O for FAANG? Recently started in the former role, but have interview calls for the latter just come up in my mailbox. Similar comp when adjusted for the different job locations. Can anyone help me with the Pros and Cons please. For 20k? Probably not worth losing full remote. That is like 500 extra per paycheck, but to go fully in office and lose the flexibility? Idk man thats a tough call. Unless youre super underpaid right now or this is a strategic career jump I say no
Whats your current comp?
How far do you live from the office? Calculate the cost of driving and food you’d buy for lunch (if you cook at home now) and also see what the difference would be after tax. Is ~400-500$ extra each paycheck worth it for you? If so go for it! If not stay where you are and keep applying!
I turned down a similar offer because once you go remote, it’s really hard to go back. No amount of money makes up for losing hours to commuting. How much would you actually take home after factoring in extra costs like gas, parking, or eating out?
OP posted and ghosted lol
You can always get an accommodation for hybrid work/remote work if you have a history of mental health issues. But also, weight in the pros and cons of all benefits, not just base salary. Because sometimes it ends up costing you more to commute, change jobs, than staying even if the salary is lower. (For example if one employer fully covers all health benefits vs the other, how long you have to commute, bonus, etc.)
How much money do you make now? Extra 20k going from 200k to 220k isn't worth it. Going from 50k to 70k is worth it. Exception: you have to pay for childcare or a car or another major expense that you could avoid with remote work.
And don't forget about other benefits (matching 401k, free food....), brand prestige and opportunity to change roles, if these things are relevant.
Think about the time loss for commute and cost for said commute. Gas/parking/tolls? Buss/train pass? Personally I would not move to in office for only 20k. 50k I would think about it but it’s hard to put a price on the flexibility of being remote.
I would never do it ever I would consider only for something over 200K $
