A customer marched into a store demanding a refund on an air fryer the place never sold. The employee explained, but the customer waved their phone with a competitor’s website, insisting “all stores are the same.” After shouting they’d never shop there again, they stormed off—pushing a full cart of items they still planned to buy. Ever seen logic vanish that fast?

We had customers who get agitated over something and swear they'll never foot in the store again. And, of course, the next week they're back in the store like nothing ever happened. I'm not sure how many times you can give up a store for good, but it seems to be a high number.

Haha, that’s so true—people swear off a place, then somehow forget all about it and come right back.

Customers can be a fascinating species. I once had someone try to return an empty packet of cookies because, and I quote, "the cookies were disgusting." She did not like my follow up question, "then why did you eat them all?"

funny

That’s classic—some people really take complaints to a whole new level.

I once had someone yell at me for not honoring a coupon from a totally different chain. I explained calmly, but got told I wasn’t customer-focused. Then they asked for help finding more items. The mental gymnastics were unreal.

Wow, some people really stretch logic to the limit. Glad you stayed calm through that one.

"I'm never shopping here again"

Well, seeing as you bought that somewhere else, doesn't seem like you shop here now ;)

Exactly—some people make bold threats without even realizing they don’t apply to them.

Agh! A lot of times when I worked at a Walmart. People would buy stuff at Costco that has Kirkland name on it and would bring it to Walmart saying they bought it here and want refund. We would be like,“ Ma'm/Sir, last time we checked Walmart did not sell Kirkland product at all".

That’s wild—some customers really expect stores to be interchangeable.

I have been working in SEA region last 4 years. I feel burned out. I have 10yoe, I have try to move to other country but I pretty much suck in LeetCode. I want to take some time off to unwind, finish some personal business, and really prepare for interviews. I would like to hear from you. Should I quit to my current manager(5th so far) or wait after mid year performance review, when a new boss will take over my team? I'm thinking on giving them 2 months notice period. By contract is 1.

Thanks

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
