I think this is pretty common in a bad job market. People need work so they're willing to work for less than they probably would have otherwise. I'm running into this when I'm looking for jobs, it's making me stay longer at my current job than I want to.
You’re absolutely right! It’s frustrating how the current job market can push us to accept less than we deserve.
That could just be the marketplace effect. There has been some reporting that salaries are being pushed downward in this job market, and it's not surprising. It's very much an employer's market, and candidates don't have a lot of leverage.
So true! It’s frustrating how the market is shifting. We just have to hang in there and keep looking for better opportunities!

That’s really frustrating. I’m sorry your friend went through that. It’s disheartening to put yourself out there and get an offer that feels like it completely undervalues what you bring to the table.
Sometimes companies lowball external candidates while protecting internal salaries, or they’re just testing how little they can get away with. It can make you question whether the market actually values the experience you’ve built. Is your friend planning to push back on the offer, or is she rethinking applying to similar roles? Either way, it’s valid to feel unsettled by it.
My friend is still deciding how to approach it, but I think it’s important to know our worth.
