I don’t think it’s an HR issue however it’s rude.
I believe you should proceed as you feel necessary, with HR or with a conversation with that individual. Let’s not continue to give passes especially when training has been provided. If it makes you uncomfortable speak up. It’s 2023, if you are intrigued, Google or YouTube black hair and it will teach you the process.
Def normal & with the Carlee situation and her wig. Many people or companies tend to ask black women this. Sometimes it’s a compliment or they are intrigued. I wouldn’t loose sleep over it. Men ask as well when dating all races of men. The country needs bias training.
This happened a couple of times to me with a partner at my firm. The first time I was shocked and admitted it was a wig. The second time I smiled and kept repeating, “this is my hairstyle” until she stopped pressing. HR doesn’t really work for lawyers but smiling and refusing to answer does
I think it depends on your previous interactions with the coworker do you feel like it’s a curious question. Also I like to answer a question with a question, “yes why do ask? It’s all mine it’s on my head 😂
Nip it in the bud next time. Just say that’s impolite very matter of factly and don’t break eye contact when you say it. If you’re feeling really bold ask “oh are you looking for hair care tips?” They will get the hint.
When people ask intrusive questions like this I ask them “why is that important for you to know?” They will say something like they are curious or whatever, so I repeat my question adding “how will knowing the answer to this change your life?” They usually feel dumb and walk away. Use this as you may. Lol
You have a right to feel “sensitive” about it because why do they feel entitled to this info??? It is intrusive, they’re nosey, and do not require an answer.
Right but when our own race asks us this men & women. What’s it called then?
It’s called annoying
It’s 2023. With all these wig bloggers & influencers. Why is it still offensive? When clicking the link to buy or all of them on Amazon as well. They have natural hair weaves and half wigs as well. It’s a business. Every black person doesn’t find it offensive. Ppl also get questioned about plastic surgery, The world we are in.
I don’t want anybody to question me about anything on my body, PERIOD. That includes plastic surgery, whether my clothes are brand name, if my earrings are diamonds or cubic zirconia, etc., doesn’t matter because none of it is anybody’s business. I don’t see people walking around asking the girl who clearly got lip filler if she just got filler, but for some reason, everyone thinks black women’s hair is fair game. It’s not. All of those kinds of questions are rude and I’d also be considering going to HR if someone asked me if I got a nose job.
It’s cool that you aren’t offended though. Happy for you.
