A parrot is a serious commitment: they live 20 years and need constant daily attention. Please don't get one if you're not ready for that. Birds suffer severe, lasting psychological damage if they're neglected and it's unbelievably sad

Goes for any pet really, people get animals into their home with very little consideration of how much care and time you need to dedicate to them

Nothing sadder than seeing an animal come into our clinic that is clearly a victim of severe neglect. Breaks my heart every time

I think everyone here knows the commitment that it takes to take care of a pet, it would be nice if more people from the general population had this kind of knowledge and awareness, it would make all of our jobs so much more palatable. SO many sad pets come through here I wish I could rescue them all

At the same time, a happy bird is such a joy to have around the house, but I agree you gotta be ready to meet their demands

I remember when I was younger my grandma had two parrots that were "a couple". They were just bird friends who lived together. I remember when one of them passed, the other one started losing his feathers and he ended up passing away shortly after as well.

I love parrots! Honestly if they weren't so high maintenance I would have a pet parrot, but for now, I am content with having no pets until I have the time for it.

Pet parrots are definitely high maintenance. They require dedicated time for socialization, enrichment activities, and training to prevent behavioral problems. Never get one if you're not willing to commit 100%.

Parrots need a large cage or aviary to move around in and plenty of toys to keep them occupied. Parrots also need a varied diet with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as formulated pellets and other nutritious foods. I know most people have no idea about this and just like pet parrots because they're exotic.

Regular veterinarian care is necessary for proper health management and some people have no idea. A guy brought in his dying parrot and said "oh, I never realized I could bring my bird to the vet" and we were like "well sir, all animals need care".

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

I need help. I think I’m being underpaid at my job I’ve been at for 3 1/2 years. I’m a full time receptionist for a veterinary hospital but I also manage the reception area (I answer all questions and if someone makes a mistake I’m the one the fix it) and am an in house trained veterinary assistant but can do a techs job (unlicensed) and I do help the technicians out anytime they need and I’m only getting paid $13 an hour while a crew member at arbys gets paid $15 . What should I do ?

If you're being told "take your full lunch" (because by law you need to be given a certain amount of lunch depending on how many hours you work) but then you're told, if work's not done you need to stay until it is, and now people don't want to take their full lunches because it means they'll have to stay after work longer, is that coercion a violation of any federal labor laws?

I'm curious if anyone has insight about how different veterinary practice laws are from state to state (or province to province)?

Hi everyone, I’m seeking some advice - my dog (8yrs old) was attacked several months ago by another dog and after she became depressed and anxious. We got her anti depression meds and those seemed to help but how a lot now a lot of signs are pointing to a potential brain tumor. To get an MRI is +1k. My mom doesn’t want to spend money but it just hurts me so much to see the behavior - she walks around in constant circles, looks sad, seizures, hides under the bed. Any advice would be appreciated.
