McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

From the client side, MBB tech is several tiers lower than B4 + ACN.
I'm currently at a household name tech company and have worked for two household names over the course of my career during stints in industry and have been the person signing engagement checks for quite a while. I can count on one hand the number of times MBB has won a tech engagement pursuit in my portions of those orgs over my ~10 years in these roles.
This is obviously anecdotal and doesn't answer your questions about comp, leveling, etc, but it gives you at least an idea of what the client outlook is.

Good insight, I have next to zero exposure to them as a whole from a tech perspective but have worked directly with B4/Acn on deal pitches and partner delivery. I'm not overly concerned with Prestige, more so comp/progression etc. I came from a startup so I get trying to find your footing & subsequent headaches. From my vantage point I could see more potential growth at a faster rate as it seems nobody wants to go there lol. Just need to determine if the reason for that is comp, wlb, progression etc.

MBB is trying to build their tech from scratch. Not prestigious at all in that space.
