After 8 years in consulting, I realized I have no idea what a normal job even looks like. I’ve worn every hat including project manager, analyst, strategist, therapist. And now that I’m thinking about leaving, I can’t tell what I’m even qualified for. Every job description sounds either too narrow or too slow-paced. How do you start figuring out your next move after consulting?

Just left after 6 years, manager at Accenture. I feel/felt this completely. What I’ve learned at my new role is there are definitely people with much deeper experience than consultants, but there is absolutely room for our experience.

I feel this OP- being laid off and not knowing where to apply is another challenge! Any advise is welcome

It’s easy mate, you just wear another hat like you did every other time.

Got laid off and have the same feeling. Any advice?

Ditto

Absolutely agree

When I moved to industry I was shocked at how narrow job responsibilities were. It took a lot of getting used to when I was expected to focus on a singular area - and I am still not sure I like it TBH.

I read a lot of posts here about difficult bosses, difficult clients, difficult partners, terrible briefs and terrible agencies. All that might be true. But it’s getting old. What I’d be interested in hearing about are the stories of how people have overcome the challenges. How did you sell that big idea? How did you fix a relationship? The world is not going to get easier. So maybe we can help each other get better at dealing with it. Who had a win recently? How did you do it?

currently tossing up between staying at a global company (who is in the process of some positive changes) with an amazing manager who supports my career and flexible working … however comes with the inherit issues that come with a long standing global company

compared with a role at a smaller mga, higher salary (around 30%) more , more visibility career wise and some great employee benefits , management seem to be supportive and low staff turnover

which would you choose here

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
