Go take a vacation and maybe book a therapy appointment. And take a nap.

I do think new juniors don’t have that dawg / grind in them - think it’s the jumbo offers
Nah people are just valuing wlb more than ever before. Which is good to a point cuz these industries are toxic as shit and we need a change but some of the new juniors think they’re working a 10-3 lol
A tale as old as time

OP, I hear you. They want to make sure the bottom of the pyramid is well stocked. Quality be damned.

Yeah. My 2.7% raise vs. the 9% increase in my billing rate. I'm irritated but don't really have options. Sigh.
If you're appealing to fairness re: associate comp, then you're probably too naive to make equity partner. I'd move in-house now if I were you, before you become too senior to make that change.
Elaborating on that point, your firm already has you trapped, don't they? Big mortgage? Private school tuitions? Maybe alimony? They can get away with paying you just enough to keep you because they know you can't leave.
On the other hand, these law students have complete freedom of movement. If a firm doesn't open the wallet, then the prime law students will go to the firm that does. That's why they get paid more than you.
Why are you trying to dissect a stranger that you've never talked to on an anonymous forum lol? It's not that deep, just people complaining. But to your point, firms sure can keep people in the industry with what they consider to be the bare minimum. This is not news to anyone who has participated in any free labor market. But most associates do not hope to make equity partners eventually and can (I) stop giving their best and offer the bare minimum effort in return until they leave or (II) just leave for a firm that pays the same and require less from the associates.
Wasn’t there a special bonus? And does your firm pay above market bonuses for high billers?

Those are “discretionary.” So they can choose not to pay them out. In practice, it’s unlikely sure, but they can do that.
lol we complain about the same thing at my firm
