This seems like a personal decision and what your priorities are. You now know what agency life and in house life is like - which do you prefer? Another option is pick a financial services brand doing cool work. Maybe Venmo? Or Square? Amex does good work - maybe go to Dentsu on that account?
From what I’ve been hearing, a lot of agencies are struggling. Current job market is not the greatest. I’d say keep looking for a gem and sure thing while still working. Find a creative outlet outside of work or a side gig.
Agree , I’m freelancing at finance as well. It’s stable & 9-5. No pressure. I don’t miss agencies. I pivoted to client side in 2015 & got my life back. Personal choice my excitement is in my fashion blog.
Are there waffle parties?
Blue waffle parties.

The industry is on thin ice. I’d stay put where it’s cushy. Grass always looks greener but there are very few people actually making the fun work.
The grass looks greener until you smoke it.
Stay and use the experience to pivot somewhere else brand side down the road. Can’t beat brand side pay, stability and work/life balance.
Can you shorten your work day even more? Take on creative freelance or write something (mag articles, play, spec TV). It's so rough out there for writers right now. Like legit. It's brutal. Go ahead and look for a new job if you want to.
There seems to be a good amount of writing work on the b2b side, my partner has two full times jobs writing b2b
You’re living the dream according to some. Life is full of chapters and this could lead to something else cool. Keep your head down and make that cheddar.
Pharma can feel the same way (been there near 10 years) but with passion projects on the side I've found creative fulfillment that I don't need to tie to a paycheck. Will those projects one day earn a paycheck? Maybe, maybe not, but in the meantime, I can pay my mortgage and keep myself sane all at once, and that's a luxury. The way I see it, better to just be grateful that I've not been replaced by an AI bot yet.
Tasks everything that your making that’s in excess of what you were making at an agency and do dollar cost average in index funds like S&P 500. Just do that. Take that and don’t look at it.
Yes. But wait for the market to tank before you invest.
Exactly in the same position. I’m tempted to stay at this safe job and work on film on the side. But I do wonder if I’m nuking my career prospects as a creative, I’m only in my 20s.
Depends on your life stage goals professionally and personally. If your current gig is helping you achieve goals then it’s a keeper at least in the short term.
If you have good work life balance at the bank, I would stay there. Unless you land something at a unicorn boutique agency that offers flexibility, same pay, and more creative opportunities IMO it doesn’t make much sense to go back to an agency environment
Yes. And I love the ad biz. At least the way it was. Keep saving as much as you can. The ad world sucks energy and time.
I would stay for now and satisfy your creative itch with freelance work. At least until you find something more fulfilling.
I would stay put and look for a new gig on the side. A lot of us are looking for in-house work because agencies are unstable with a lot of layoffs right now.
You get jobs based on your work so if the work is bad you will eventually be trapped by it. That said the times are going to be very tough for agencies for the next year with the economic collapse we are about to experience so wait out the storm and once everything is clear go back agency side.
It really depends on if the career progression aligns with your goals.
Do you live to work or work to live? Is there something you’ve always wanted to do outside of work that you now have the money and time to that would leave you more fulfilled?
Difficult to opine without knowing your circumstance, BUT sound like a short term safe harbour unless you can grow to be in a position to make decisions.
nobody will give a fuck about your career when it’s done.
Make money, stay invested in life outside Lumon, retire as soon as possible.
