Medications are a tool. They can help you get to a place where you can function and do the hard work of therapy. They won’t fix you and if you just use meds you’re probably going to limit yourself on the progress you make to better mental health.
My advice for people struggling with mental health issues is to use all the tools available - medication, therapy, exercise, time away, etc. But also be mindful if when you can stop using a tool. I quit therapy after 16 months because it was time. I stopped the meds after 2.5 years because it was time. But I also talked to my spouse and agreed that we’d monitor how I felt and my actions to see if one or both tools needed to come back out of the box.
There’s no formula for this; just strategies. And everyone know strategies rarely survive contact with the enemy.
Substitute the word “depression” for “high blood pressure” or “diabetes” if that helps. Can behavioral choices make a difference in all of these conditions? Yes. Can that always solve the problem in 100% of everyone? No. You might also always need meds depending on your brain chemistry. On meds me is a lot better than not on meds me, for one. Like VP1 said, it’s a tool but not the only one you should be using.

Soul searching led me to therapy and meds, which is a game changer for me. It’s a much-needed option for people who really need it.
I just got prescribed wellbutrin as well, howver I haven't started taking it. The doc prescribed it for me, for ADHD which is confusing for me. From what I read online it's not really meant for ADHD is it?
@OP Any update on how you've responded to it?
Food directly influences your mood, so do songs you listen to. You can trial the anti-depressant for a month, and if it doesn't sit well you can end it without lasting changes. I'd give it a go.
