Sometimes you get lucky. For my latest job, I just had one in-person interview where I met with a few people and then I got a job offer. But the job before that was 4 virtual interviews - so maybe that plays a role?

They must have really liked you in that first interview. I do feel like there is only a need for a maximum of 2 interviews and any more than that is unnecessary
I avoid anything more than 3 interviews. They better decide smart and sure, and quit waffling
Chief
If you attend 3 interviews and they ask you to attend a 4th do you decline then? Don’t you feel like you’re too far in and used up so much time by that point that it would be a waste to just decline after that long?
Usually it's 2-3 rounds but I was once interviewed by different interviewers at Citibank in Internal Audit for 4-6 times only to receive no result at all.

That’s the risk of being willing to attend so many interview, could just be a complete waste of time in the end
It’s crazy! Capital one was 2 interviews, an assessment + the power day (3 interviews + case study interview)
My current role was recruiter, hiring manager, and then 3 in person interviews
But then like a role I interviewed for at KPMG was just recruiter & HM. So it really depends I guess lol
Chief
I guess it varies for company to company but I know for a fact that it didn’t use to me this time consuming
It is but it's crazy ! First 1 or 2 phone interviews then In person interview. And have you noticed the jobs that they put on the sites have like 20 jobs for the one position. Was never like that before either.
Chief
Should just do an in person interview to begin with and then a second one to round things off if it’s needed. Anything else is just excessive
I have definitely started asking about this up front to avoid disappointment on both ends. I was once 6 rounds deep and told HR I was done even though they were putting me up for the next round. It’s crazy especially if you already have a job to expect this kind of time commitment from an experienced applicant
Not my normal. Ask up front if you aren’t interested and let them know why. I have my limits.
I prefer just 1.
I’m also good with an initial phone screening/introduction/summary of the position with HR talent recruiter followed by one interview with the hiring manager that I’d report to directly.
The positions I’ve stayed at the longest, enjoyed the most, been promoted and/or earned the highest money were the ones with only 1 interview with the hiring manager. The best job I’ve had started from one interview that was a zoom interview that lasted 20 minutes. She was a hands off manager than hired independent teammates that worked well independently with no hand holding. This was a remote position with her in another state and I only met with her in person once every 3 years.
I’m not doing day long meetings or 4-6 interviews. If you’re an experienced manager, you know within minutes if it’s a viable fit.
