After my final round at BCG I got feedback that I need to improving my initial structuring, to not use overly generalized framing and of course be MECE.

Any tips or resources for creating sound new frameworks for every case? I’ve been looking at CraftingCases with seems pretty good. Please no victor Cheng or similarly overused framework mill.

McK interview coming up in a couple weeks so only limited time.

I only used CraftingCases to improve my structure and got a McK offer- would highly recommend them

I’d strongly recommend sticking with CraftingCases (all their Youtube videos + free course) as well as RocketBlocks for constant practice.

I think Victor Cheng is completely fine. The whole idea is to take typical structures and re-invent them so they’re specific to the case. Bec at the end of the day, A probability case is the probability case and you’re going to be using many parts of the probability framework

Crafting Cases has great theories and ideas. Take their free course and read their articles. Beyond that, practice more and point out to your case partner you’re trying to focus on developing a tailored structure to the case

Since your interview is in a few weeks time, would suggest you to try hiring a current or ex MBB consultant who has given interviews before. I’d say go for two sessions, one in the next few days. Then go practice based on his/her feedback for the next week. Then one last session two days before your interview. I did this and felt it was worth the $200 dollars or so I spent.

like

The reason victor cheng is suggested so often is because it works. There is no perfect resource that will make you better at frameworks, it’s all about getting a solid baseline and then getting reps in with live cases and adapting your baseline of knowledge to a bunch of different cases.

I agree, I found VC to be an excellent starting point and helped round out my skill sets. I’m just still struggling to think critically about creating my own structures so I’m looking for a new approach for that particular aspect of the case.

Did you use the standard customer, competition, company type framework? One suggestion I have received is to modify the buckets based on the case prompt. For example if the client is looking to consolidate 2 offices into 1 (lease out the other) and are asking you to determine which office they should shut down. Your buckets could be something like real estate economics, employee and client preferences or something along those lines

like

More important to prioritize a few components than to have a mece framework. If mece means you include stuff that is not relevant, cut out that stuff. And yes to customization. Best to talk to how x applies in this particular context.

They’ve changed the process since I did it back in February. My first round was a case and behavioral over zoom, in one 45 minute sesh. I heard they are now doing an online case with a separate behavioral.

I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $400k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?
