Congratulations! I’m pregnant with my first as well! I got my husband the books “We’re Pregnant! The first-time dad’s pregnancy handbook” and “We’re Parents! The first-time dad’s guide to baby’s first year”. He’s reading the pregnancy handbook right now and loves it! It talks about what women go through and the baby’s development by week.
My sister-in-law is a PA and used to work in pediatrics. She said she and all the doctors in her practice always recommend expecting parents to buy and read “What to expect when you’re expecting” and “What to Expect the first year”. Another Mom recently recommended that I buy and read “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” if breastfeeding is something you’re planning on doing. Don’t forget to book those infant childcare, breastfeeding, and childbirth classes to go to together! Lastly, another piece of advice I got was to find a good labor and delivery checklist online and don’t forget to fill it out and make several copies to bring to the hospital. Here’s an example of a checklist: https://www.unitypoint.org/desmoines/filesimages/Services/Maternity/Pregnancy%20Tools/K%20-%20Birth%20Plan%20Checklist.pdf
Hope this helps!
Thank you!!
For that matter, I’ll take all your recs for resources for me too! ;)
I got my husband the expectant father to read and he’s really been enjoying it!
Helpful context. Thanks!
Emily Oster’s series - expecting better, crib sheets, family firm. Start with expecting better. We both liked the analysis as well as the summary on each topic.
My husband also got a lot out of the birthing class we took at our midwife’s office. All info that you can read and research but he appreciated the 5 hour crash course.
