As a Black woman in the military, how did you learn to deal with the policing of your hair?

The same way all other groups do! The thing about a career in the military is that you will have to change yourself to fit the demands of the job, not the other way around. It's not a slam on your heritage, it's just the way things are done. Also, as an aside, a lot of black women can practically shave their heads and it comes out looking fabulous, it really highlights your facial structures and comes across as fashionable, chic, AND practical. Just my two cents

Whatever race you're in there are policies saying what you have to do with your hair, it's nothing that's specific to a particular race. Every branch of the service has rules like that

Not a big deal. It's kind of funny to me how many people think black people's hair is really high maintenance, maybe I'm a more lowkey kind of gal but as long as I keep it conditioned it doesn't bother me. It's been growing my whole life so I know how to deal with it LOL. I like keeping it kind of short so it's more of a wear-and-go style as opposed to having those teeny little braids like my sister (looks great on her though). There aren't any different regulations for me as opposed to anyone else.
