Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Normally I’ve either negotiated in person or over the phone. Email would be nice just to have it all in writing, however if you just make sure to get the finalized details in writing, all good to go for me. Do not recommend verbal only on salary conversations, things tend to get muddy and confusing and never in your favor.

In writing (email) if you cannot discuss in-person. Document everything.
I have done it through email! Gives me time to craft a well written paragraph about why I deserve it rather than having to do it over the phone. Plus you'll have the documentation!

Email. Much easier to document and seems to be the preferred means of communication by most employers.
Usually I’ve found that the recruiters or hiring managers want to do this over the phone live.
Negotiate on the phone. It’s harder for them to say no than on email
