I work in-house and I'm not bored. The pace is definitely different than an agency, but there are always things to do. But honestly, what is so bad about being bored? Collect your pay check and go on with your life. It's a job.

Helpful! I think I’m less worried about things to do, and more worried focusing on one company/industry might get stale. But also, not having to deal with clients or juggling a million things sounds so nice
I feel like I get more done since being in-house. Personally never found it boring, but there are a lot of longer timelines where agency was everything, right here, and right now. Always depends a lot on where you end up, too.
There are absolutely pros and cons to each. Sometimes I miss that rush, but other times I remember too well how much that was pushing me to burnout!
I've definitely preferred my time in-house after spending several years at an agency. However, note that even though you don't have "clients" per se, you do have internal stakeholders that you work with to advance company goals, and they need as much (sometimes more) PR education as agency clients do.

Such a helpful reminder!
I much prefer agency! But it also depends on your role. I think for strategists you get to purely exercise strategy at an agency only, unless there’s an in house structure with similar roles or you’re the CMO
I actually started off in account management (there are so little junior roles in Strat so everyone usually started off in something else) and I was doing that role for 3 years until I finally was able to convince the agency I was in to give me a shot as a junior strategist. Had to start all over but it was so worth it.

I think it depends on the company. No doubt agencies give you a good variety, but their are some firms out there (large and small) that give you the opportunity to work on some really cool projects. Don't discount them.
