I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

I would say there's luck involved in the sense that it's all a combination of skill, networking ability, and even geographic location. So it's not a good idea to be too hard on oneself. But having said that, looking inward and assessing what you're doing right, or what you're doing wrong, can be helpful. If what you're doing isn't working, mix it up, try another approach.

Just be the best you can be and improve with each interview. Someone will make you an offer.
I think it's party luck of the draw, partly your application materials, but MOSTLY who you know and how well connected you are. There is really not a one-size fits all answer, except for that people who are getting hired right now are well-connected and are using those connections to get past the initial application reviews
