No, you were right. That clawback provision is absurd.
No. That is too aggressive. 2 years is a lot. AND, with that time, it should be pro-rated.

I've been out of work for 6 months now, and even though paying off the credit card debt we've amassed is priority, I'd have no problem letting that bonus sit in a mutual fund for two years in order to get income flowing again.
You're not wrong for walking away, I'm just sharing my very different perspective based on where the job market is at.
The fact that it’s a gross clawback instead of having to restate withholdings makes it even worse.
This is tricky. 24 months in insane but it's an employers market.
Clawbacks are common and expected but that’s ridiculous. Should be fenced to only include resignation or termination for cause.
Hell, last time I was in a position to actually negotiate terms I was able to stipulate that my RSUs would accelerate if I was laid off within 24 months of my vesting period. Turned out to be moot since I’ve now been here for 12 years but I was proud of myself at the time.
