Amazon reached out to me to apply to a role. They had a salary range, but said they could offer a max amount that was $14k above that range, TC. The base salary was $107k ($157k TC). Is Amazon really paying attorneys that low?

Per Google:

Amazon structures compensation with a relatively low, capped base salary (often maxing around $160k–$185k base, though higher for top roles) and a heavy emphasis on back-loaded equity (RSUs) that grows significantly in years 3 and 4. To offset low initial vesting (5%/15%/40%/40%), the first two years are bolstered by cash sign-on bonuses

I had a recruiter call a while back and the base for acc was in the high 100s and total comp high 200s in the first year. This seems very low.

like

157 total is pretty low. Is this for an ACC and if so are you reading the comp right?

These roles exist. Essentially a contract monkey. Comp seems right for the role. ACC is higher. Also depends on geography. You get name brand but the title is iffy

Is it a non-attorney role?

Yeah this sounds like a JD adjacent role

I couldn't imagine working biglaw hours at Amazon making that little.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Considering a move in-house to NBC Universal in any litigation role (though I’d really go to wherever there is a need, whether litigation or business affairs generally). Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?
