It would be a change in lifestyle for sure from the US but that’s still a very high salary. My parents earnt much less combined and I still grew up comfortable as a child with 3 siblings. I’d consider looking at living in commuter towns within Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire or outskirts of London - great state schools, houses rather than apartments and when we do start going back even 2-3 days per week the commute will be very manageable.

I’d play around Zoopla and see if you can get anything closer.

My base is £85k and I live in Zone 4 with four kids (sole earner).

Biggest lifestyle change is not having a car, but I think we're healthier as a result.

If you want to live in London, that salary is adequate.

Ofsted reports are decent, also use GCSE / A level grade results as a guideline for school performance academically

Is this in audit? £87k is great if you are in audit; usually a SM1 starts around £76, so pretty good. Also, where in UK? if that is your total family income for London, it is not worth it. London is super expensive, would need atleast £100K for a family to live comfortably

As a senior manager, I don’t even make that. Am in London. It’s a great salary for manager, which usually caps in the 70-75 range but averages 60-68. Bearing in mind you don’t have healthcare costs etc here it’s doable in London.

I hear you, but 86 is still above average for UK family earnings. I’m not saying it’s a lot, but it’s comfortable enough. Curious to know what your 6k outgoings are - we’re a family of 3 and don’t spend that. And insurance is just part of your PAYE so no one who lives here considers NI as part of their outgoings, it’s just tax...

This is a pretty decent salary for manager in the UK!

That’s a great salary for Deloitte manager. I know some on less than 60k...

Total comp sounds like there’s variable pay involved. It’s in-line with what D pays in the UK, but are you OK taking the likely pay cut from the US? That’s the biggest hurdle for me moving the fam to the UK. I feel like we would have a hard time if we made our US salary in the UK since COL is so much higher in London.

Are you currently an M or SC in the US? I know a few folks in similar situations who have negotiated a promotion with the transfer.

Depending on your skills we’re hiring in 🇦🇺,🇨🇦, and 🇳🇿

like

No it's not for Audit. Its for Consulting and yes, it's for London and I am the sole earner at the moment as we have 2 yr old kiddo and 6 yrs old.. I am trying to get to SM in next couple years hopefully will reach 98-100k band and our kids will also grow and my wife will eventually join the workforce.. We'll get there eventually!

I am currently a Manager here in US and got more than 14 years as Total Experience..

I know it’s been a while but i happened upon this post. OP I’m assuming the base was £80k? Did you wind up negotiating? I’m working on a transfer and hoping for £85k

I asked for revised compensation from infosys based on parallel offer letter and got below response:
Compensation is determined for various roles, based on the competency and the experience a candidate comes in with. We also look at ensuring parity amongst any other internal employee with similar competency.  Considering these facts, we will not be in position to change compensation.
Please advise how to negotiate further.

I'll be moving with family. Wife may not immediately start working (,find a new job, we have a toddler daughter as well 2 YO).

I personally don't find this offer commercially attractive. Can someone offer some counter arguments?
