get these software engineer vs lawyer comparisons out of Fishbowl. Where’s the moderator to strike these posts out. If you don’t like practicing law, go vibe code at your local startup
😂😂

Can we compare to NFL players next? What is the point of this

What is an SWE?
Software engineer.
what
Rising Star
Yeah let’s not compare lawyers salaries with engineers - it’s hardly a meaningful exercise
Rising Star
Especially when you consider their age but - what can we do
The 7 year combined income of some who stays at market firm for 5 years then goes inhouse would be way higher than this. But, having worked in IT, it’s ridiculous to compare IT jobs to law jobs because the salary distributions and sheer numbers of employees are radically different.
You need to look at an estimated distribution of the net present value of lifetime earning per career path. Biglaw will be much higher. Of course, if you hate the job, then do something else, but plenty also hate IT.

Yeah this is comp for a SE at Meta or Google with the tism who’s in the 1% of his earning population. Nice try.

1% is Jane street citadel ET al. Nice try

I’ll still take being a lawyer. I make more than my brother (who is also a software engineer with 10 YOE). This post is horse poop.

Skill issue
6 YOE, $450k TC. I work in tech so practically everyone I interact with is a SWE. I don't match this (and i'm older), but I'm happy with my situation. Every SWE I know making this much grinds pretty hard (as in, a busy 9-6). I am chilling pretty hard, probably "billing" like 20 hours per week, at my desk 10-5ish
I got that beat. So have fun coding.
