Diversity, equity, and inclusion is really a full time job and requires someone who has had training in that space. Also agree with A1 you have to be passionate about it.
Good point. I don’t have any formal training in it.
Don’t do it if your heart isn’t 100% into promoting diversity and inclusion. Keep that role available for someone who wants to push that platform forward!
I have a 20 year history of doing DEI work, am asked to speak on the topic almost monthly and already spend almost 2 hours a day on DEI work directly related to our office (we are a large in house department). I probably should have provided more context! My frustration is balancing it with my litigation case load.
Career suicide is subjective. The role you chase might make it hard to move into other areas later (unlikely DEI leads to M&A...). If your goal is Transactional work, not the best move. But if you’re happy and want to do DEI, what’s it matter? Maybe go get some training before making the jump, but don’t make the decision based on what others think.
You hit the nail on the head. My concern is transitioning. Although, I’m in an obscure area of litigation—-DEI might make it easier to transition!!
