Any litigators also have a pretty decent work life balance? I work a lot but I wouldn’t say I’m ever drowning except leading up to and during trial.

Class action litigator — we don’t even have trials. Things can get more intense around summary judgment motions, but overall very reasonable, especially now that I’m senior and have a solid handle on how long things will take and what I can delegate.

I'd argue litigation lends itself a lot better to a good work-life balance because it's more predictable and has set deadlines. You pretty much know going in how busy you'll be and when and can plan around it. Between those deadlines, it's usually not too much to ask to keep things 9-5.

If you use the pomodoro method for time focus and tracking, do you bill in those increments or just keep your billablr timer going the whole time? For example, I work in 25 minute increments for large projects then I get a break. Do I bill .5 for that increment and restart my billing or keep my billing continuously going thereby not rounding up for those 5 min? I have just kept my timer going.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
