Any recommendations for dog-friendly rental buildings in Jersey City / Hoboken? Looking for 1bed ~ $2.5k. Reviews for buildings in the area all seem negative, hoping for some first-hand experience

(and please, if you think JC sux and I could find this same kind of deal in NYC, lmk where because my searches are coming up empty)

Come to my building in Hudson heights. There’s a guy with 2 full grown huskies, a woman with a Bernese poodle, and a dude with what I can only say is a Great Dane ( can’t fit in the elevator). Long story short, my cats are damn terrified

Try the Newport Community.

I moved in during pandemic and I dont see any problem. Some buildings are really old, I live in the Hampton building right next to the water. So far so good.

Look at Urby in JC. Lots of dogs in the building.

Lived at 485 Marin the first year it was built (2018-2019). KRE building. Nice luxury building with amenities and very pet friendly. With 1/2 mo. Free maybe you can get a 660-720 sqft for $2700-$2800 for yr1. Otherwise looking closer to $2900-$3200. They are somewhat McAptarments? (it is Kushner lol) The panel on the top wall above the fridge started peeling off when I was leaving. They came to do an inspection and I pointed it out “assuming they understood it was natural” but charged me anyways. Didn’t want to deal with it. Moving out is always a nightmare (scheduling open time slots to move will be less “available” and they will try to charge you for cleaning or anything slightly off). Newer Newport building areas are the same (e.g. Ellipse). Will run you more $. Older apts (mostly carpeted) in Newport are not worth the rent. Elevator maint. can be slow in any of these properties.

Thanks! That’s a bit out of my budget, but will keep it in mind

Check out SoHo Lofts, I lived there for 3 years , new building & great amenities !

I'm paying this for a two bedroom in Williamsburg. Matter of preference of course but IMO Brooklyn offres a nicer lifestyle than NJ

like

I found JC to be a good balance between amenities and space. The units are still 600 sq+. which works well for me. I don’t mind shared laundry or wash/fold, but central AC has become a deal breaker for me

Lives at Hudson Point for a year. Loved it. Maintenance always nice, quiet, right at the marina and no major problems. If you can snatch the 1B with balconies, you can enjoy marina view every day. Lots of dogs in the area too and easy to find sitters when going out of town

like

Thank you! I’ll be checking it out :)

I am in the same situation looking to stay under $2500. Moving to JC because it offered me more options than NYC for that budget. I looked at a couple and agree that the reviews aren’t that great. I did like Soho Lofts but it is over my budget.

like

I feel you - if you find any really good places let me know :) I’m moving from out of town, so I haven’t been able to see anything in person yet

Try ‘The One’ in JC. Lived there for 2 years and had a great experience.

Lots of luxury buildings in LIC at that price point/ some are still doing multiple months free specials.

like

I actually don’t live in LIC so not super familiar with all the buildings, but my friends live in the Linc LIC and got 4 months free when they moved into a bigger unit in April. Looks like they are still doing 2 months free... 1brs are actually in the $3200 range now though 😕. But with 2 months free that brings net down to ~$2600, so if that is close enough I can vouch for the building, been hanging out there for like 5 years now lol. The doormen are chill, everything is super clean and brand new, rooftop is amazing.

I think this is one of the nicer buildings in the area so if that budget doesn’t work I’m sure you could find something in one of the other buildings, worth checking out at least. Then you won’t have to deal with the PATH 😘

I’ve lived in 225 Grand in JC for 4 years and I love it! Lots of dogs of all sizes so the building puts on events with Bark Buildings so your doggies can make friends! Awesome vet directly across the building (Veterinaire Pet Care) and a dog spa a block away. There’s an events room, community kids playroom, gym is not the best but we have one, free yoga and core workout classes, wonderful front desk folks, and an outdoor pool open from Memorial Day to Labor Day! They will also deliver your packages straight to your apartment for no additional charge if you’d like. HelloAlfred service is available too, but you have to pay separately for that. Also, they always plan an event every 3 months or so like free cooking class, free succulent workshop, summer bbq social with food and drinks (pre-pandemic- right now it’s virtual), or Christmas parties with live music. One block away from the Marin blvd light rail and 5 blocks from grove st path train. We’re a block or 2 away from the water and there’s a cool bar&grill with beach bar vibes called Surf City. Lots of good food around too. If you walk a couple of blocks you’ll end up at Morris Canal Park and its a nice park with a view of NYC and there’s always a ton of dogs there! Message me if you want a referral!
