FP&A team responsibility varies by firm so I would tailor resume based on the job description. That being said there are some fundamental things all FP&A teams do like budgeting and forecasting. Transaction experience is great but not as relevant to FP&A so tie it into your ability to forecast revenue or build forecasting models for certain businesses/products.
I’m in a typical FP&A position doing financial plan and forecasts and analysis. Why are you trying to get into FP&A when you can exit into a much more sexy and lucrative job? Haha
I'm lazy where I absolutely loathe working 80 hours+. I can easily do 40 and be productive
FP&A can really range from doing things like journal entries and GL reconciliations to more forecasting, budgeting, and strategic type projects. I’d just keep that in mind when interviewing and feeling out teams. In my experience a lot of tech companies have that strategy aspect to it.
Depending on the role, ofc, knowledge of SQL may be helpful
If its a "modern, data driven firm" tableau also. Its easy to learn (coursera)
Currently in that space. Feel free to DM with questions
Pick a target sector or two and network
Depends on what type of company you’re looking to work at. I made the switch from Wealth Management into Corp FP&A and I live in California as well. For the most part, gear your resume and experience towards how you can do forecasting and budgeting and what trends in different GL’s you’d look for when looking at a P&L or financial statement. Feel free to DM as well to get into more specifics
