One year big 4 is like seven years industry. Dog year rule applies
Just be aware of how you phrase things in the interview. Chances are they'll be curious what made you leave after one year and what made you come back. Usual interview spiel, keep things positive.
1 year big 4, 1 yr industry, now back to big 4. That doesn't look good on a resume. If you go back to big 4 better make it last a while.
Ask one of your friends from your former firm to send you a list of rank expectations for a senior. If you know how to do the things on the list, go for it. If you don’t know how to do the things on the list, then you aren’t qualified to be a senior
If you have your alphabet soup, then it’s not unrealistic I’d imagine
I have one year of industry experience in a young company and ran one engagement while in Big 4. My skill set has expanded a lot in the past year and I have multiple examples of having to step up and play a significant role in making major decisions at my current job. I left my Big 4 firm on good terms
It’s doable. Basically you have 2 years experience which in most firms would put you up for senior.
Possible but They may judge if your past year is relevant to the role tho
Yes. You are basically asking for B4 to count your year in Industry. It is doable if you have the experience you say and can articulately talk about it
Why didn’t you just stay and probably promote faster based on your prior intern experience and staff year? Seems like you would have fit nicely to just progress instead of picking a fight and leaving and now hoping to come back. I’m just saying if you were “highly rated” and they didn’t want you to leave, why did you leave?
Thank you everyone for your responses. I left for two reasons: 1) I was being grossly mistreated by a couple of teams that I was on (like very inappropriate and unnecessary things were done/said to me which weren’t warranted period but DEFINITELY weren’t warranted for the work product I was putting out) and 2) I realized that I was more there for other people than myself and if I was going to go through what it took to be and stay successful I was going to have to want it for myself. And to know that was what I wanted I needed something to compare it to. Trust me I’m surprised I want to go back myself but I really miss the intellectually stimulating environment and if I went back I would stay for at least 3 or 4 years. They said I could come back but I was just curious if wanting to come back as a senior would be too much of a stretch but it seems if I do things the right way that it would be possible.
OP - honestly we are in desperate need of good smart people in tax at the moment; especially ITS. Tax Reform is keeping us super busy. It will last long enough to make it worthwhile for you to come back. Further if you are a top performer you will excel anyway. So, I definitely think it is possible for you to come back - especially in this environment. I am very active in recruiting for EY for Northeast tax. Message me if this is of any interest. Thanks
