Hey, I have 4 YOE and currently a manager at PwC and have been managing teams for a little over a year now. My role mainly consists of leading teams of engineers deliver MVPs to our clients.
If I wanted to exit to Google or Facebook (Meta) what role would align for me? I was looking at engineering manager roles but unsure if that’s too senior for me.

Chill and don’t beat yourself up excessively.
Tell them about the visa situation straightaway - over phone.
If they refuse - it was never meant to be anyway.
If they accept - thank them and take it away as a life lesson never to lie in a job application.
Don’t stew over it. Act. It will reduce anxiety.
Good luck.
McK sponsors OP could just stay there until they get sponsored

A visa isn't as easy as getting a few extra thousand on the back end during negotiations. It's a process that some companies may not even choose to participate in.
Honestly it's pretty incredible that you wouldn't let them know that you'd need sponsorship. If I was HR I would not like to have that detail slipped in at the last minute. Tell them immediately
you lied on the app and said that you didn’t need visa sponsorship? why would you expect them to mention visas to you in future rounds if, to them, this issue is settled?
I have been seeing an uptick in posts about dishonest job applications recently. I do not understand the point in lying when it will bite you back in the butt.

Tf? So you lied on your application and now you’re trying to figure out how to back down from your lie?
What benefit did you see to lying? Many companies are not set up to offer sponsorship as an option and lying about it just wastes everyone’s time. On the bright side, you probably don’t need to worry about negotiating salary at this point...
I need visa sponsorship as well so I can empathize with the challenges. I was always upfront about my situation and ended up getting two employers who initially didn’t want to provide sponsorship to do so.
I don’t think recruiters make a habit of asking “what did you lie about on your application”
If you’re going to do this in the future make sure you bring up the visa stuff during the initial recruiter screen. Much easier than later on
At this point you’re probably just best off waiting till the offer emerges if it does. Then you can just let them know you were confused etc, given OPT and definition of sponsorship and take it from there.
Be fully prepared that they’ll withdraw the offer once that happens. Visa stuff in a lot of companies is policy driven and you won’t be able to change much, but as always exceptions exist, so they may choose to sponsor.
You don’t really get to negotiate salary in a situation like this — if they don’t toss your application, that’s a win.
It’s over, come clean ASAP and maybe they don’t toss your application
I actually saw someone else posted here that they do the same. I followed suit not thinking :/
Talk to them now. Come clean and say you accidentally said no.
This is usually a move pulled by desperate college students. You being in McK pulling this move… tsk tsk.
I’d probably just ask about visa sponsorship without mentioning what you put down and if they bring up that you put you didn’t need it act surprised and say you must have selected the wrong option. McKinsey does sponsor. I suspect it won’t end up being a huge deal as they don’t consider whether someone needs sponsorship when deciding whether to hire someone (so it was dumb of you to put that you don’t need sponsorship when applying there). McKinsey salaries and signing bonuses are not negotiable, so you didn’t miss out on anything (other than annoying them) by not trying to negotiate. Relocation allowance may be negotiable, and there’s a small chance of negotiating what level you come in at if you’re coming in as an experienced hire (which it doesn’t sound like you are).

OP - I would be extremely surprised that a recruiter would not confirm ANY details about visa needs in the very first call with you. That is basically what the first call is always about - your intro, and then basic admin questions including visa needs. And if you have qualifications from overseas, they'd most likely already have an idea or will point blank ask the question about your visa needs. If they haven't, then it's either a significant oversight or they don't care because they'd be open to visa processing and are mostly focused on hiring the best candidate. I wouldn't sweat over this. Carry on with the process
Rookie move bro
Honestly once you own up to the visa sponsorship need they are probably going to pull the offer. Don’t lie.
Expect to lose the opportunity because you lied on the app
If I were a recruiter, lying on a job application would be a good way to easily weed people out. Let this be a lesson OP.
OP - not sure why you did this but this is a mistake! Hope you learned from it and won’t repeat it again. Do you have H1B already (assuming you based in US)? If so, visa transfer is fairly straightforward. In my experience, most companies are open to it. If not, do you have OPT time left?
Those who lie about a major thing like right to work lack integrity. If you lie at all, they will not hire you because who wants to work with a liar. Who would let their clients near a liar. Who wants to date liars.
