To be fair, they’re probably nervous. That’s such a huge task. I know it doesn’t sound like it. I did this and my bridesmaids were overwhelmed and afraid to pick something I hated. Narrow it down!
This is why I picked their dresses- I knew my girls wouldn't be comfortable picking their own, and I'd get way too worried about it.
Any chance you could change course and just pick out a dress for them all?
I picked 4 styles and told my girls they could choose whichever one they felt most comfortable with. It only took me a few minutes, and they weren't overwhelmed with a million options, so it worked out best for everyone.

every wedding i’ve ever been in i’ve been told pick a black dress you like.. it was the easiest thing ever for me. if they won’t pick that’s insane they can literally do whatever they want. if they can’t pick a black dress without your help i’m genuinely concerned
10000000000000000000%. I do not find this to be one bit fun.
The bride for the wedding I was in also asked us to pick out dresses ourselves but had requirements like no strapless, nothing revealing (didn't know what she meant by this), help pick the color, etc. At that point if you have so many reqs why are you leaving it up to someone to decide. I would have felt much more comfortable having her just pick it for me so I didn't have to worry about picking the wrong thing. She did eventually just pick all of our dresses and when they came in she didn't like them and tried to get us to return them for different ones

I don’t enjoy wedding planning at all. I decided to not have a bridal party which has made things slightly easier.
Yes, and I really hope it does not drive us apart in the end - that's really the opposite of a wedding celebration! I try to see their attention to detail as respect for me and wanting my wedding to be perfect!
Honestly, I hate it...I tried to outsource as much as I can bc I just don't care for it. If I didn't have a big family we would've just eloped lol. We gave everyone some kind of direction in terms of color and style, but are leaving the rest up to them
You probably already have something in mind when you said "black cocktail attire" while your bridesmaids start from scratch. Give them a few examples of what you are looking for
I feel like it's the stress that's talking. I also get that feeling sometimes. How about you give them an example?
I spent fkn hours looking at bridesmaids dresses and color combos on Pinterest . I got so tired of thinking about it I finally just told my friends to get a black dress from azazie. Cocktail length otherwise your choice of style. Can’t go wrong with all black. But might make it easier on them if you direct them to a specific site to buy from.
