I'm currently working as a receptionist in a small (ish) rural business after working as a hotel receptionist for a few years before this. It is totally different. I think because the management isn't great at what they should be doing, the lines are blurred between where my role ends. So I end up doing lots of different things that require me away from the desk for a portion of the day. I don't mind it because I get to move away from the desk and etc, but it is also extremely frustrating because I end up doing things that somebody else should be doing and getting backed up on my own work.
However, while I worked as a hotel receptionist, I also found it difficult and annoying that I wasn't allowed to step away from the front desk. Even just using the bathroom was a mad sprint to get back as fast as possible. Very annoying.
