Absolutely have experienced this and it 100% made me leave a company I really liked otherwise. I just wasn't willing to compromise my own happiness and mental health and the manager was related to the company owner so I knew there would be no way to fix the issue either. Really a bummer!
Anyone who says they have never had at least one bad manager is either very lucky or lying to you. I have never been so outdone or abused by a manager that I quit, but I have been more inclined to accept another offer and move on than I would have otherwise.
Absolutely. I had a manager that was so mean. I don't think he really knew how to talk to people. He seemed to be socially awkward and just not know social cues. I ended up quitting because the overall culture was insane.
Hold my beer. Had 2 that tried to “get with me”, one actually laying hands on me. One manager, at 2 different roles lied to upper management to try to get me fired. One manager, at 2 different times, held me back so my work made his transitions to higher positions was easier. Then you have the extreme disengaged manager. SO MANY awful people in management in my career.
There was this one micromanager who treated spreadsheets like sacred scrolls and hovered over my shoulder like a possessive parrot. Every decision, every email, every paperclip used required his divine approval. Jumped ship after less than a year.
