Anyone familiar with the Chief of Staff role? What YOE would it be most relevant for? Would it be considered a good exit for a strategy consultant aiming for senior management?

In some companies a chief of staff role is the right hand of a ceo and very strategic (usually in line for a director position). You're job usually consists of getting the entire exec committee engaged and aligned. Usually you'd have a couple projects as well. In other companies it's really a glorified EA. If the former you'd want 5-10 YOE.

Yeah. I’ve seen that at hospitals where a COS ( usually a director) moves to a VP role under that C suite after 3-5 years. It’s a proving ground for lots of up and coming leaders. Another role is Director’s of Special Projects

like

There are also COS roles for large firms (at banks) where you’re on the “COS” team for a c suite exec. I think they do more transformation related projects

So for someone with 3 YOE this sounds like a fairly attractive exit then?

Could be a good way to get in and network with the senior leaders and have them place you.

Sometimes I feel like my boss takes "coaching" a little too far. He's all about "breaking me down" in order to "build me up". He's told me things like my voice is too boring when I present, or that I didn't do enough in my last role, suggesting that I wouldn't be in his team if it weren't for him in team meetings. Yesterday he asked me to call someone (on a non-urgent topic) who was on DND, and when I told them I'd call them later, he mimicked me. Am I being too sensitive?

I’ve been out of consulting for 2 years. I went to company A (was a series E startup but has since went public). I left company A for company B about 3 month ago. I started at company B (a series C startup) a couple of months ago and haven’t had a great time. I’m struggling and don’t really enjoy my team. My old boss at Company A just left and the company posted a job opening (cont)

Hi everyone. I’m looking for new work actually. Currently working but I’m looking for more opportunities as my current role is a contract one. Have been pinged for a possible role as Director of Operations at a promising looking startup with a 50%% pay increase & equity. It looks like an amazing opportunity.. but my husband and I have just started trying for our first kid, and I'm not sure about leaving the stability and benefits of Big 4, even though I feel like I have run out of career growth here. Has anyone changed jobs at a similar point, or worked at a startup as a new mom, that might be able to share perspective or opinions?
