Nope, at least not in complex cases. They definitely start to form opinions during openings but individually and connectively they usually move back and forth until deliberations.
They might but I’ve seen multiple juries say they changed their minds after hearing the instructions right before deliberations. Until they learn the law they are supposed to apply, they can’t make a final call
Not even on jury duty and my mind is already made up. Definitely guilty.

There was a study of juries more than 40 years ago that unfortunately supported this. The study supported that juries relied mostly on “primacy” and “recency”, first and last, so that whatever was heard first and last was more important. Still, with mock juries, a scary percentage made up their minds after hearing the opening statements.
