What are your must have artsy picture books for your classroom? For read alouds and also just for the bookshelf for early finishers :) I teach K-5

I love art picture books. I taught elementary art for 20+ years. Here are a few of my favorites: Roberto the Insect Architect (for architecture), Uncle Andy’s Cats (artist study), Lucy’s Collage (great intro to collage), Phillip in Monet’s Garden (artist study), Camille and the Sunflowers, and The Dot (great intro to art book).

I often open a lesson for K-2 with a good picture book. Students love "Dream Carver" for a Oaxaca patterned animal project. "The Spider Weaver" is great for Kente cloth projects. "Tar Beach" is inspiring, and pairs with story quilts. Funny books are a must for extra time to fill, I love the book "If..."
