Anyone have any experience getting a voucher or flight credit from British Airways?

I paid over $2,000 for an international flight but I can no longer travel. BA customer service is telling me they don't issue vouchers and the ticket is nonrefundable. I'm not willing to let that much money go. Am I SOL or is there something I can do or someone I can speak to?

(P.S. I find it ridiculous that they're refusing to give me a flight credit. This isn't a basic economy ticket)

Absolutely involve your credit card. I'm British and British Airways are often in the news here for being ******* when it comes to refunds. Absolutely don't give up and get the press involved if you can - the guardian newspaper is fantastic (bullied them into playing by UK aviation rules) and has a big American arm. Find their consumer champions email and they should be able to give good advice

Do you have travel insurance or did you pay by credit card? It sounds like you bought a non refundable ticket but if you have a valid reason maybe your insurance will pay back.

like

Did you purchase a non-refundable ticket?

like

If you purchased a non refundable ticket and you cannot travel for a reason not covered by the airline and the method by which you paid, then… it’s not refundable or creditable.

like

Unfortunately you’re out of luck with their policy. You bought a non-refundable ticket and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Unlike some airlines that offer more expensive refundable tickets or handle partial refunds, British Airways will only give you refunds/credits for cancelled flights or when you cancel within 24 hours of booking.

Not trying to be an ass when I say this or rub it in because I’ve made these mistakes before early in my travel journey but… always read the policy beforehand. The rules were set in stone and were there plainly to read when you bought the ticket back then.

like

You must not travel very much or only traveled very recently. Until covid non refundable was non refundable for basically every US carrier. Most carriers now will give credits for everything other than basic tickets. But FYI this is why you read the date rules before purchasing, I get why you’re mad but this is totally on you

What do your fare rules say?

Is it due to a medical issue? What CC did you use to pay? Amex platinum, chase sapphire reserve (and maybe a few others) are very good at helping dispute things. Now, this is a large amount, but if you have a valid documented reason for being unable to make the trip, the CC can help you get a refund.

Maybe you’d have better luck asking to take the same flight a different day vs. a credit to your account?

Read the fine print

I had a similar response when I accidentally double booked tickets (browser issue) with BA on behalf of my mother. Instead customer advice told me I could appeal for refund on the grounds of it being a "good will gesture" as the ticket were for a flight home so she could attend a funeral, the financial stress of paying double when we already had other funeral costs,...

It took a well written email to their comments and complaints department, some back and forth but eventually we got a refund out of 'good will'.

So if you've got extenuating circumstances OP you could try that way.

This is why I always recommend reviewing the fare rules, if you bought a ticket that stated it is non refundable then they owe you nothing. Some fare rules while non refundable allow credit so it really depends on those fare rules. You can ask to change the dates of travel?

Help! I recently purchased a wanna get away ticket through Southwest for a business trip that was about $850. I was asked to cancel the trip due to other work issues in my local area. Ideas to help me avoid writing a big check to my company??

Back in May 2021, I rented a property that had sustained damage during the big snow storm. This wasn't disclosed at lease signing. The home leaked every time it rained, mold was found in the home & the LL failed to make repairs that resulted in me falling down a flight of stairs. I moved out& rented an apt for 2 mos before signing a lease on the house I live in now. This house has a serious big problem& I've found mold here too. Continued below

Question on UK visa-
My partner will be traveling often to London, once a month for an year starting September. He is getting his visa through work (10 years, multiple entry, 6 months max stay, cost some $1000).

I have applied for standard tourist visa in the past and they are usually short term. It could be max 6 months, but they see your itinerary and allocate you few months around the itinerary

Is there a way to get 6 months multiple entry visa, if I were to join him once in a while.
