I co-lead a sub team of 8 ppl in a small sized non-profit. Overall it's been both challenging and rewarding. I had to be very self disciplined to make time for both work and non-profit. Knowing that I'm working hard for a good cause really motivates me to be more productive at work though. Of course as I take more responsibilities with my own job I'll need to reevaluate my outside commitment but it's a positive experience and I highly recommend any traveling consultant to pursue something you value. In the end your identity and your life is not bounded by the title
My creative pursuit outside of work is making babies. Two so far. My hobbies center around dealing with their tantrums. Whatever time that is left I try to read. Usually fall asleep after reading a couple of pages. And two weeks later return the unfinished book to library.
I'm working on a screen play. Took a while to figure my best schedule to be productive. Gotta do what works for you. I get about an hour in a day between 12-2am. That's what works for me. Unfortunately, when I'm tired from work that's usually the first thing that comes off the schedule. Just gotta keep at it.
Anyone have good tips for photography/good photo editing apps? I never use my mirrorless
Backpacking in the wilderness
@A1 can't go wrong with lightroom for general purpose editing. Photomechanic is a great tool for culling with it being faster than lightroom
Writing. It gets affected all the time. Time, mood, peace of mind get messed up at work, and decide if and what I want to write. Sometimes I purposely don't write because I know it will be negative, when I'm stressed at work, etc.
@A3 fiction mostly, sometimes self-help and op-eds. But with fiction, if I'm building up on a story I know my mood will influence what's happening with a character. So, I try to stay neutral. With op-eds, these days, negativity helps.
@A3, its interesting - and would resonate with many in numerous industries. Does the characters dreams conflict with the struggle for advancement in corp america. I think that would be even more interesting cause thats a truism for many of us i think. We all start out wanting to be astronauts, rock stars, zoo keepers and end up consulting:/
Crossfit!
@A3 I love the storyline you described above. I'm from India and am writing a series of short stories based on the near-future where an Indian working in consulting in North America is forced to go back to India because of the changes to immigration policies under the Trump administration.
I make videos outside of work, mostly centered around travel. really enjoy it and gives me a creative outlet to figure out best ways to shoot and edit. Funny enough I've had to use skills learned in consulting to "tell a cohesive story", which is honestly a lot harder than it looks
Woodworking and anything else that involves building/constructing things. It's very satisfying. I plan everything while on the road and execute while I'm home.
... site or hotel, but thats proven more complicated since now im going to two places. Alas, weekends it shall be till i get on a local gig.

@K1, I've been looking into some of those opportunities myself and would love to learn more about what you do and if there are any opportunities with you
I'm trying to get involved with big brother but travel schedule lately has been crazy
I either just end up giving up socializing or sleeping to keep up with my creative hobbies (violin, sketching).
EY6 - im about to start an investigation to figure out who you are... cant imagine coming up with more than a handful of names of ppl who moonlight as firefighters / EMTs
Mount biking fri night and sun AM. Surf Saturdays. 52 was/yr if possible.
C1 👍🏼 on the emusic prod. Ive been turning to that more with my schedule. Out of curiosity why are you using Ableton Live for emusic? Thats a great tool for live recording, but I personally find it overly complicated for electronic. Have you looked into Logic Pro or better yet Maschine? Maschine is amazing but you need to get the hardware pad to make it really seamless. Logic allows for midi connections like a keyboard, drum machine or like a Novation launchpad. Can even explore Fruityloops for a sequencer. You using any peripherals? Sorry thread for nerding out a bit there.
@OP it's actually about a consonant but didn't focus on it. Closely related to this thread. Here's the logline.
