Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

What type of IC would you consider to be “advanced technical”?
Here’s my story:
Firstly, my firm is not very technical to start with. It’s not a tech company. My role went from IC to managerial (team size of 6 was the largest I’ve managed), and after my masters I pivoted to IC again (same firm, more technical).
In my progression, I’m now closer to the revenue generating ideation. If I need to test a new way via coding up some light ML model, it’s usually because there is potential revenue for my company.
Thus, my take is: an advanced & technical IC needs to know enough about the company and industry to know what type of solutions CAN make money.
The technical approach itself doesn’t necessarily need to be rocket science, it can be a simple algorithm with solid production-grade code & execution. Companies also rely a lot on these more technical ICs because in a room full of clueless people, they will be expected to lead the way. So this person needs to have a high baseline technical knowledge AND always improving/reading. They need to absorb all the technical knowledge out there to share with the non-technical teammates.
