Not sure how much you can find through the free search in the civil court portal, but you should be able to see if anyone else has filed against this landlord. That would be telling.

Have you had an attorney send a demand letter?
I'm looking for folks who have filed suit without an attorney or who have gone to court to get a sense of what the settlement looked like.

This is not true. By law they have 30 days to return it or give you a detailed accounting.
Is this an individual or a company?
Even if you don't an attorney to write a demand letter, write one yourself and quote the legal statute, send it registered receipt. Just be sure you met all the requirements in your lease to get it back. Hopefully, you have pictures from move in and a copy of any damages that were existing and you took pictures when you moved out and did the exit walk through.
I've sent multiple demand letters and have already filed suit on my own. LL mostly ignored me until I filed, except for one email where they thanked me for being a good tenant and asked for my address to return the deposit even though I had provided multiple times by then. Now they're alleging damages which is a joke bc I do have pics. Anyhow, my ask is really specific in that I'm wanting to get a sense of negotiating a settlement. My lawsuit asks for 3x the deposit and court costs, which is what the property code allows. I've suggested they make a settlement offer but they're just offering my deposit back. It's been almost a year so I feel like i should get something for my time and trouble.
Justice of the peace court records aren't published, unfortunately. $5k deposit, so it's a good chunk of change

I did small claims and went through a big process and they ended up just settling before trial and paying me.
