That doesn’t mean anyone is selling it. It’s called “dropping the [Hilton] flag.” The vast majority of hotels are not owned by the superchains. Rather, they are independently owned and/or operated by families or hotel groups you’ve never heard of, which can choose to affiliate with (or contract to be operated by) a superchain… or not. This happened in recent history with the St. Regis Dana Point and the St. Regis Princeville. All that said, the sale of a property might be accompanied by a flag drop.

Be prepared to be nickle and dimed for everything there. If you want to save the $45/day parking charge, there is some free street parking on a small sidestreet across the street on Seacrest Pkwy by the Bank of America. The hotel also seems to go through flags. It used to be a Starwood property. It’s also a large convention hotel so I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite.

Yeah I wonder what it will become. Hope it keeps some major chain brand. Maybe it’ll be a hyatt this time around.

I called them and they confirmed that the property is being sold and will operate under a new badge effective March 23. He said the new owner has the option of either keeping or purging all reservations after that date. Annoying. And his guess is that it will be a Marriott.
