Austin gay scene seems kind of non existent. The Dallas gay scene seems to be much better.
The Dallas gay scene is sizeable but a little “masculine” republican gay vibes to me. If you’re into that then you’re good lol
Lived in Austin and Seattle: more gays in Seattle, but better gay bars/things to do in Austin plus Austin as a whole is more open and welcoming
The city is super liberal (~65-30 D/R) and has a fairly large LGBTQ+ scene while having great southern hospitality
Hmm, I haven’t lived in Austin but stayed there for a couple weeks while visiting a friend. Definitely lots of hot gay people due to UT Austin and also recently lots of new jobs. There is also this 4th street which is lined with gay bars which is pretty cool for Texas lol, but yeah nothing wild like Chicago’s boystown etc.
Went to UT and feel like this is accurate! Love Austin. Gay scene is there but just not as wild as some of your bigger cities!
Lived in Miami and now in Seattle. If nightlife is important than hands down Miami, you will easily get bored in Seattle. I’d say it’s easier to make gay friends in Miami (look up the Seattle Freeze), but friendships you do make in Seattle will probably be more fulfilling vs just a clubbing/going out friend. With your gay friends, do you want to go to brunch and dance on the beach? Or sip coffee and hike? It’s stereotypical but it’s pretty core to each city’s underlying culture, depends on what you’re looking for! (Good luck with Austin) 😛
Temporary relationship? With an expiration date when the pandemic is over? 😂
Being born and raised inSeattle (though now in SF), there are a lot of gays. I would say the scene in Seattle is blurred. Capitol Hill is the gayborhood but is also straight at the same time. Folks in Seattle tend to blur the lines and the straight/ gay just blends together - natives don’t care much. So MANY good restaurants, the food is superb. Its a good place but you’ll deal with grey skies for 6+ months of the year so keep that in mind for mental health. haven’t visited TX or Miami yet....
grey sky is way worse then karl (but i also work on the peninsula so dont see it a lot).
All people do in Miami is party so if that is the stage of your life then go for it.
I’m from miami and not at all offended by this statement. We do love a good party
I live in the Bay Area. Haven't been to Austin or Miami, but I'm otherwise a fairly seasoned global traveler.
In my experience, I haven't seen a city with as many rainbow flags and as many obviously gay-looking men as I have seen in Seattle. That should give you an idea.
No idea about nightlife or whatever else might constitute as the gay scene.
Hope this is helpful. You'll be in safe hands in Seattle.
Miami huge (Ft Lauderdale and the keys as well)
Seattle pretty decent though more of an outdoors scene—Portland and Vancouver BS nearby
Austin literally nothing. 2 clubs and it’s terrible.
What are you talking about Austin has way more than 2 clubs 😂. It’s a city of 1M people so it’s not nyc size but gay ppl have a big influence on the population. Also the underground queer scene in Austin is on fire right now
I live in ATX. The gay population is large...in fact seems like a higher proportion of the population than DFW/IAH. That being said, it’s very different from other cities I’ve lived in. Bar culture doesn’t seem important. Very fitness focused. Also seems like a young crowd. I’m personally not hip enough to live here.
Yeah, being non-outdoorsy in Austin sounds strange. Houston is humid AF and flat, but some of the best food. Can’t wear a blazer there. Dallas is boujee so I guess that’s the one for ya lol
