A lot of folks instinctually call others by sir/ma’am. It’s hard wired into us as a form of respect and/or simply as a replacement to saying your name. ‘Thank you, sir’ instead of ‘Thank you, Tyler’ for example.
Does it make you uncomfortable? If from the south this is commonplace and more likely than not the other person isn’t trying to do anything like flirting particularly in the work place. Certainly could be used to flirt tho I would be envious of the confidence on the guy joining a new project and just asserting that dominance so quickly.
I’m an SM and one of the male analysts calls me sir. I am 100% sure it has nothing to do with sex. Move on.
