I’m doing a presentation on coming out in the workplace and creating an environment that champions diversity. What are best practices by your coworkers that have helped you or you have observed?

To come out to clients, I team up with a straight coworker and have them ask me about my weekend in front of the client during first or second week onsite. I drop a low key reference to my boyfriend somehow, and prep the coworker to respond to it like it’s a normal thing and nothing out of the ordinary. It sets the tone that a) I’m gay and b) it’s not a big deal

When the company does meet and greets they ask about hobbies, I like to shoot guns, I enjoy them and have several. I don’t mention this due to stigma people have about guns. I feel that I have to hide a part of myself at work and it’s frustrating.

This might be too ambiguous to answer, but I want to get better at taking iniative, but I don't know how. I can be pretty shy in work settings. I do things without being told, but I want to go beyond that like start projects etc. Provide more value.

I'm at an agency where we work across different brands (and therefore different CDs and accnt teams). Is it okay to request to not work for a particular CD team? Or will that reflect badly on me?

Boss: I need you to stop challenging me on every decision.

Me: I don’t want us to have a confrontational relationship and I think we can agree something needs to change. When you make stupid decisions, that affects my business and it makes me feel like you’re not up to the job. That makes it harder for my team to do our jobs. I think to be an authentic leader I need to be radically candid with you and point our your mistakes. So are you willing to work with me on this?

My manager and I usually check in everyday via slack to manage our ongoing projects. But he’s put a weekly 1:1 on the calendar...not sure what I can bring to that meeting or talk about if he already has so much visibility into my work stream. Advice pls! I’m also 3 months into the job

Hey team! I've been thinking about what success would mean in terms of this platform and general inclusion in the team. These are some of my thoughts:

1. Frequency of positive engagements (positive in a productive, constructive sense)
2. Increasing numbers of people engaging in each topic as they get more comfortable using the tool and airing their opinions
3. Some measure outside the app of team engagement in day to day interactions (changes in psychological safety)

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. Love all things diversity in the law. Anyway, currently looking for a position in NYC/DC area. 🤗

I’m 25/F, recently came out to my mother as gay and she was not receptive. I decided to send a message to my father and sisters to tell them next, and got crickets. I have a wonderful girlfriend and was so excited to share it with them, and it hurts to not have their support. I feel lucky that I have wonderful friends who do support me though. Anyone have any advice for how I’m feeling now? 🥺♥️ At the very least, I’m proud of myself for coming out and being me. Just lonelier than I imagined.
