Vent warning

Senior leadership of non-physician clinical teams (nursing, care management, etc.) in large health systems seem to consistently be some of the dumbest people I work with. I know plenty of people who do the actual clinical work that are really smart and great to work with.

Is there something systemic that causes only the incompetent to move up the corporate ladder from these roles?

Has anyone taken mental health leave? What was your experience? How long were you out for? What did you do during that time?

8 years ago I was in a really place mentally and I attempted suicide. I’ve since gotten help and always have a therapist to talk to when I feel depressed. I’m now married, early 30s and have two kids under 3. Wanted to get life insurance with northwestern insurance but then I got this medical questionnaire and I hate that I have to talk about what happened, but I’m even more scared that I’ll get denied insurance. Has anyone ever attempted and was able to get life insurance years after?

PSA: I had a horrible experience applying for a job at Devoted Health. Applied online and then got asked to schedule a phone interview. On the day of the interview, I waited 20 min and nothing happened. I emailed the HR rep, he didn’t acknowledge or apologize and just told me to reschedule so I did. I even sent a separate email to confirm the second phone call. Second day of the interview, same thing, no show. I sent an email letting him know that my time is not being valued. (Cont’d)

Getting to the point where I desperately want to quit my job. I’ll be actively looking for a new one while I’m off and know I’ll probably need to buy health insurance off the marketplace to cover the gap and avoid the penalty. Ours seems to be worried about optics and prioritizing is unclear to many of us who completed the attestation and willing to get vaccinated. While the rest of the country have started to vaccinate, we have yet to start vaccinations until tomorrow.

Those in private practice, what measures are you doing to comply with the CDC guidelines in your offices? Are you placing plexiglass at the counter? Are you providing patients with masks? Testing your staff for antibodies?

Our floor was flooded with new nurses, brought in early to help with this crisis. I'm afraid they'll lose their courage and quit nursing when this is done!
