Apparently, working at many different places is a red flag? I'd imagine tech recruiters know how the tech world is with all the constant layoffs, but somehow every time I've been interviewed, there's been a comment about my many ventures. Is it maybe because it's seen as a bad thing to be laid off more than once?

Sometimes people ask questions in interviews just to gauge someone's response. If someone is asked about having a lot of jobs and they get evasive about it, that could indicate something. If they treat it as a simple question and give a reasonable answer it may not mean much of anything. A lot of interviewing is risk avoidance, and they may be trying to discern if someone is problematic, or if they've just been caught up in unfortunate circumstances such as serial layoffs.

Agree - sometimes they just want to see how you respond

Context matters more than count. Layoffs, contract roles, startups shutting down — most recruiters understand those patterns now. What people look for is whether the story makes sense and whether there’s clear impact in each role.

Frequent moves without a clear narrative raise more questions than frequent moves themselves

Multiple short stints can look jumpy on paper, but any good recruiter should also understand the layoff chaos of the last few years. What helps is clearly labeling layoffs, showing impact in each role, and having a coherent story about what you were trying to do (not just “I bounce a lot”).

Depends on how many and how long each stint is. Explanation of each being specific is important too. If you have been at 6 places in 3 years and all you can say is “layoffs” then yes, there are red flags.

Has anyone switched labs for better lab quality/embryologist experience? Wondering if there is a significant difference between labs. We got poor results at our current clinic and, happens that our clinic is rated lower on SART website. Wondering if the lab quality is the reason or if the clinic handles complicated cases that lead to lower outcomes. Overall, unsure if we should switch clinics or just try again at the current one. Thanks.

Additional Posts in Ask A Recruiter - Tech

I’ve worked at the same well known tech company since I graduated school 8 years ago. I’ve been promoted 3 times so I’ve held a few different jobs within my org.

BUT .. I’ve applied to a few companies and getting no responses. Is it a deterrent for hiring managers/recruiters that my experience is based primarily at one company?

Hello recruiters, happy Monday!

I want to know why recruiters ask me in an interview if I am looking at other opportunities, or if I am interviewing at other companies. If I say yes they will ask at what stage I am.

I just want to know the reason behind it and if there is a right answer to this question!

I have a friend who was let go a few months into his first job after college (reason: the manager felt like he wasn't grasping the training content to the level that was expected). He's worried about if he should put the experience on his resume anyway, if he does will recruiters ask why he had such a short time at this place, and what will recruiters think if he explains he was let go. What are some things recruiters expect from candidates in this situation to continue considering them?
