We had our last training session, and like many, I expected a small gesture, maybe lunch, a gift card, or some acknowledgment. Instead, we were told, “We’re the department that loses money.” That felt dismissive because it doesn’t mean we work less than others. Recognition, even in small ways, goes a long way in boosting morale and making people feel their efforts matter.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

Someone came in and ordered 60 bacon double cheeseburgers… my crew thought I was kidding. 😅

I had customers tell me how amazing the salads I make for them. It’s great that I can make salads that good!
