My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? This is, unfortunately, the culture of the firm. It's highly political, and each account is like a mini mafia. It doesn't matter how hard you work, how much revenue you bring, or what impossible feat you achieved for the betterment of the firm. If they don't see you as one of them or let you into the inner circle, then they will just exploit you by moving the needle. This is common in all industries tbh, but D exploits the most. Do not overlook this. I've seen this time and time again. I transferred from Consulting to Advisory after several years of this - high performing but assinine reasons for holding me back. I knew someone who was told she smiled too much, and that's what she needed to work on for promotion. My advisory leaders were ready to promote me in a fraction of the time. I left the firm because of this exploitative culture and realized that I could make significantly more elsewhere with or without that level of politics. There were too many incompetent narcissists in the firm who found joy in bullying. If you want to stay, make sure you find your tribe quickly because folk will use you up and then haze you for a promotion. Otherwise, create an exit strategy and get a promotion by way of a new job. And do the bare minimum to keep those high ratings while you wait. Don't be afraid to reposition in the firm multiple times should you choose to stay. Good luck.
In Deloitte, they are two different companies. Consulting and Advisory are separate companies under the same Deloitte umbrella. I transferred jobs...same title and same pay after a year working on my project. They also have two different cultures because they have two different sets of leadership. Advisory is more inclusive, less cut throat, more collaborative. They do work side by side with Consulting leadership and staff on the same accounts.
Yes Big 4s always work that way. It is good for happy people who are secured.
