Are plaintiff depositions more important/complex in employment lawsuits than they are in other general litigation matters? My spouse is a litigator in toxic torts and other general lit, and she always acts like plaintiff depositions that I’m prepping for should be treated like some casual walk in the park that won’t matter. But I think in her cases, plaintiff depos don’t matter as much- evidence of the car mechanics or expert witness battles are more important.

Yeah they’re wildly different. Toxic torts almost requires no prep. You and 15 other defense attorneys show up and hope your client doesn’t get identified

Plaintiffs deps in employment cases are the whole case

As a plaintiff - side employment attorney, yes a plaintiff deposition can make or break a case!

Someone with experience in diff practice areas - I think plaintiff depos are treated like a big deal in employment law because they happen so infrequently

I wish I had clients that would settle early— especially in some cases— but that has not been my experience.

I don’t know anything about toxic torts but in any MSJ in an employment law case I’m usually citing the most to the plaintiff’s deposition transcript. It’s so important to get them to admit certain things. I think also most of our cases either settle or end at the MSJ stage because obviously at trial plaintiffs depo becomes slightly less important. I also think they’re complex because you’re trying to get certain information without the plaintiff being clued in to how it applies to the law. A well prepped plaintiff is difficult because they’ll want to give their lawyers talking points.

I got a job offer as a Safety Compliance Specialist with a focus on Operations/Process Safety. It’s a regional role, so I will manage over a few facilities in my given region. I negotiated my salary at 80k + $600 monthly car allowance + 8-10% annual bonus. I have 7 YOE in Operations & QA/QC in the Oil & Gas sector. I will complete bachelor degree in safety next year, so I was curious is this a reasonable offer to start my Safety career path? Also what are other certifications to better myself?

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

Case load= malpractice? Small plaintiff’s firm of 25 attorneys. I was a 2 year associate hired and given 50 active files in pre litigation status. 9 mos later a partner quit and I inherited 45 more.
