Are there any big law firms that actually let their associates go on vacation or is that generally unheard of in big law?

Everyone at the V10 firm I worked at went on vacation. Might have to push hard before and after if you’re busy though or answer the occasional email

yes…if you are working somewhere where you can’t take a vacation, then you should leave. I’m taking 15 days in June to go to Europe—I haven’t taken off in a year and a half. My colleague went to Italy for a week last fall and is in Japan right now. The partner I work for is in Brazil. If you work hard, meet your hours, and don’t take off during a shitty time (i.e., trial), then any decent firm won’t have an issue.

I’ve been struggling with finding the right antidepressant. I started a few months ago but had really bad side effects and stopped (headaches, lethargy, nausea, inability to concentrate). The withdrawal is just as bad. I’ve noticed that I made mistakes when my mind was in a haze and just can’t seem to work. I think I need to find an antidepressant that works for me but I’m nervous it’s going to make work that much harder. Do I tell someone at my firm? If so, how?

I'll go first: on a last night out for a navy guy I'd dated for like 6mo he dragged us to king street where i never enjoy, at the bar w the toss the ring game a couple was fucking in the bathroom and the guy in front of me in line was mad about it taking so long so he started banging on the door trying to break it down and started to fight them when they came out. So we escaped to kickbacks where a customer threw a drink at the waitress who subsequently pulled a 🔪

I’ve been practicing in traditional labor for about two years now (although about a decade of labor relations experience) but I’m trying to break into employee benefits law. Unfortunately I’m not being given much experience in benefits as I’m pretty typecast as a labor atty. Any advice on how I can go about getting employee benefit experience? My long term goal is to have benefits be my main area of practice.

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?
