Additional Posts in Lawyers with ADHD
Everything always takes me so long to do :/
I’m not sure how this will impact this bowl, but it is worth pointing out the need to assess whether there should be concern for those in this bowl. While we all understand ADHD is something attorneys are completely capable of managing with legal positions, not everyone in the field agrees with that. https://joinfishbowl.com/post_va66ztgmkw

My 2 cents: you’re probably not doing it right; The actual deliverable deadline is entirely irrelevant; You need to break the task into chunks, calendar deadlines for those, and literally calendar time to work on them.
Before I made the above changes, I was just reactive. The day would get away from me and I’d work longer hours and inconsistent hours. Trying to work like my neurotypical colleagues was a bust. But when I turned the deliverable into a block minutes on my calendar, it all started to click. I could SEE my bandwidth and see on what days I was overburdened.
Are they just aspirational? I have mine set up as “once you deal with these, you can go home.”
I also start with some small easy wins to get some momentum going so I can knock things out.
Well most things I think involve deadlines. But maybe look in-house? Your deadlines would be much softer I would think. I hear you though , the constant stress over deadlines is killing me.
In house deadlines are usually not as harsh but I don’t think you can have any job without deadlines being an important factor, in law or not.
A lot of in house projects/deals need answers quickly (like during the meeting you have) or after a quick follow up, or maybe you’re supporting a sales or procurement team and they need to close a negotiation before X date. Or there’s a marketing campaign that needs to be reviewed before it goes live on X day.
In house corporate has relatively few deadlines at least where I am.
Estate & Trust? Tax? Corporate-focused advisory practices (e.g., privacy) have deadlines driven by client or business needs, which might be more flexible than a court deadline.
AA1: If you have any questions about it, let me know! As baby boomers die, I think there will be a continuing need for it. Having the technical knowledge of how trusts and estates work is a huge help and the litigation stuff is easier to learn.
