Mine is still designed but VERY clean and minimalistic.
Mine was too but it had two columns and accented colors so I revisited. I had someone rewrite it for me and it is no longer designed and I don’t know if I should mess it up or not hahaha.
I heard some people have two.
The designed one for designers.
The word doc one for HR and ATS systems.
How does that work? Because generally if you submit your resume HR sends it off to the hiring manager or creative director. I guess is that more so the case for non agencies ? Because then they will see the non designed one you submitted. I understand for agencies you could maybe try to do the other one?
I have two, one for humans and one optimized for AI/HR systems. The best way to know how it ends up being “read” is to copy all the type from a PDF and paste it into a word doc or email - that’s how it’ll get interpreted. My name being a graphic was a HUGE issue I didn’t recognize at first.
hey that's great info. So do you have bullets then, with explanations as to how you've grown the business and other BS like that? That's what I've heard you need. So a Word doc is the way to go for uploading to an actual application VS emailing a human....Thanks!
If you’re a designer, it should show you understand typographic hierarchy and layout. I’d be pretty confused to get a basic system font Microsoft word looking resume from a designer.
It’s my understanding that as long as you don’t use multiple columns, it doesn’t matter how design-y your resume is and the ATS should be able to handle it.
I have the same question, especially since ATS is a big factor now. I've been told that as a creative you shouldn't just list the accounts you've worked on, but rather put bullet points with achievements, which makes for a lot of type on the page, and very hard to "design". Thoughts on this?
