I would ask about the potential or likelihood for conversion to a full time position. I contracted years ago, pre-COVID. Definitely factor in the PTO and healthcare costs you’ll lose. I left a full-time role for an 18-month contract with a $12k higher salary, but ended up taking home less because healthcare was so expensive and the unpaid time off for appointments or vacations cut into my income. I was unable convert to full-time at the completion of my contract and was offered a 90-day contract, but I got sick, and ultimately ended up unemployed and in further debt than when I started. Didn't realize that this company rarely converted freelancers and contractors so I was pretty screwed from the start.
As mentioned above, independent healthcare is EXPENSIVE! Not sure of your demographics and if you can hop on a spouse's plan or meet the age requirement with a parent, but definitely worth looking into. Aside from that, I love contract work. I just wouldn't jump ship until you're absolutely certain that your current job is a dead end.
I wouldn’t worry about benefits I would be concerned about security, especially in today’s market.
